A delicious "diet" variation on a summertime favorite ...
Dietetic Open Hamburgers
- 1/2 lb lean hamburger
- 1/2 cup minced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon Angostura bitters
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- Spread the meat mixture to the very edges of 4 slices
whole-wheat bread. (I prefer substituting white bread.)
- Broil 3 inches from heat source for 3 minutes.
- Remove from broiler and spread a little mustard
on top of the meat and top with thin slices of tomato.
- Broil 2 minutes more.
Makes 4 open sandwiches.
